Food Drives
Are you thinking about organizing a food drive or raising funds for West Lincoln Community Care? Thank you! Your time and effort will immediately help people in your community and make a difference in their lives. Please let us know of your intention, this way all food bank staff are aware, knowledgeable and ready to accept donations on your event day. We’d also like to post the details of your event on our website and Facebook page. We’d love to help you and can provide collection tubs if needed. If you have any questions about food drives, please contact Sharlene Volpatti, Client Services & Food Bank Manager at wlcc@bellnet.ca or 905-957-5882.
Food Drive Tips
Location is important. Consider who will be donating and select a location where your food drive will be most visible. Good options include grocery stores, gyms, libraries, schools, and offices.
Award a prize! Making it a competition and coming up with an incentive is a great way to build excitement about your food drive. A class pizza party, office lunch, raffles are all great ideas.
Get help. You don’t want to do it alone, ask anyone and everyone to help you out. Friends and family are great allies to spread the word and collect from their network.
Think BIGGER! Stop by your local grocery store or business and let them know that you are collecting food for West Lincoln Community Care. Do they have any non-perishable items that they could donate? Can they start a collection in their office?
Advertise and Word of Mouth. The more people that know about your food drive, the more donations you’ll receive. Hang posters and distribute fliers around town, to let everyone know when/where to drop off food. Tell everyone what you are doing and ask them to tell their family and friends. Use Facebook to promote your food drive. We can put your event on our Facebook and Website too!
Thanks and photos. Thank everyone that helped you and take a photo with the food you collected. A photo is a great way to showcase your accomplishment and inspire others! Post your photo on Facebook or send it around in an email and send it to us so we can share it too. Give yourself a pat on the back and put your feet up – until next time 😊
