To West Lincoln Community Care
I am a single mother of three children. I recently left an abusive relationship and found myself on my own with my children with no car and very little money. I was fortunate enough to be able to turn to Community Care for support and help with groceries and sporting goods as well as a washer and dryer which I so desperately needed. I also felt respected and cared for by the good staff at Community Care. I no longer fear the coming Christmas time as I know that Community Care will be there for me and my family eliminating the need for worry about money and allowing us to find peace and happiness at such a delicate time of year. I feel more secure knowing Community Care is there for us. I can see the effect it has on my children. We are more at ease knowing that we are cared for and looked after by such a wonderful program.

I’ve been going to the Food Bank in Smithville for a few months now and it has already made a huge difference in my life. It had also been my first experience going to a food bank and at first, I naturally felt embarrassed and awkward asking for that kind of help, but every time I stopped by I’ve been welcomed with friendly and genuinely good people. No one is judgemental or looks beneath you for whatever situation you may be in. Financially I’ve been really struggling the last couple of years. Going to the food bank has given me a chance to put some food money towards overdue bills, loans, etc. also eliminating a lot of stress. The food selection is great. I always get as much as I need. West Lincoln Community Care is a life-changing and sincere place and anyone who’s struggling and/or maybe embarrassed to get help, I’d definitely recommend going here. Thank you so much for everything!

I enjoy volunteering at West Lincoln Community Care. It is very rewarding to know that simple things like donated coffee cups and tee shirts can be turned into a “loaf of bread” for a person in need in our community. We live in a very generous and very prosperous community. The amount of donations and the stream of shoppers, merge to provide for those who need a little assistance. By volunteering a little of my time, I can help turn those donations into food! How awesome is that?

I began volunteering in November 2018 and I am so glad I did. I do not ‘feel’ like a volunteer, instead, I feel like a contributor to helping those in need in my community. I feel like part of a ‘volunteer’ family where not only do we jointly help our community but we also help one another on the job. We are part of a special family, we have fun, we share laughter, we feel pride for what we are doing. The managers treat us with the utmost respect. I look forward to the time I spend with this special organization and the wonderful people who make it work. It is most rewarding. I love it!

My reason for volunteering was initially because I recently retired after working full time until the age of 74, and knew I needed to do something which would keep me connected to the real world! I chose WLCC because I have been an admirer and supporter for many years, and because it gives me the opportunity to give back to my community. I feel I get much more back than I give by volunteering. All the great people who work here are so enthusiastic about what they do, and I really look forward to my shifts. I gives me great pride when I hear out-of-town people praising the store and the friendly people, and knowing that the bottom line is that its all about funding the food bank, and helping my neighbours who may be in distress. Keep up the good work!

To West Lincoln Community Care,
We have lived in West Lincoln all of our lives & have always been proud of our community. We have worked our entire adult lives helping our neighbours and charities whenever we could. We never thought we would have a problem as we got older as we considered ourselves to be middle class but here we are.
I am writing to express our sincere gratitude for the help you have and are giving us. We want to thank your Food Bank staff for professionally and respectfully explaining your services and gathering our information while treating us with respect. The way your staff treated us allowed us to keep our dignity while using a community service that is free help but would normally be embarrassing because of thinking we were taking from others. We have never asked for anything before and never knew that was available to us. Your Food Bank and Client Service staff have helped us through illness and disabilities that have put a major strain on our finances and quality of life. We were quite surprised that you were able to help us when we fell behind on utilities. This sudden and embarrassing time in our lives was the most stressful time for both of us. We did not know what to do then there you were, a miracle disguised as WLCC.
You are a tremendously needed and well-organized charity that utilizes your options to benefit each person’s and families separate needs effectively with compassion & privacy like good neighbours or old friends.

I am so grateful that you were there to help me between employment. I needed help with necessities while I job searched. My time job searching became a time of just getting by and surviving. Thank you for being there to help.
I have a job now. My 2 young children who understand the value of love, community, money and giving thank you for your part in that.
I may need you for little extras like the Step Up For Kids Program but now with the pay schedule flowing, I can do the rest. Again thank you for being there and your kindness.

To West Lincoln Community Care,

I moved into West Lincoln with my girlfriend months ago in hopes of finding new employment and a better way of life. At first with no employment and few resources we were eating as little as 3 times a week. I have used Food Banks most of my life but was initially very nervous to come to WLCC because of how horribly I had been treated at other food banks. But when we walked into your Food Bank we right away felt welcomed. Your staff immediately shook my hand, listened to our story, were not judgemental and treated us with respect. They clearly explained all the support and services that would be available to us.
This is the best Food Bank that I have ever been to. I can’t believe that we are able to come twice a month to get food. Now with your help, we are able to eat every day. You have made your Food Bank a place with respect for its clients providing wide choices like in a real grocery store. It is amazing how a small town has all of this.
Your staff invited us to participate in the Christmas Program that is coming up. I have not celebrated Christmas for many years and have learned to hate it. We have signed up and now I am actually looking forward to Christmas for the first time in a lot of years.
We love West Lincoln! The people are actually nice here and care about each other. Thank you to the Food Bank and what you have done for us.
